Musical Postage:Latin Music Legends (Forever)

This past week was the launch of a speical series of collectable stamps title, Latin Music Legends. Celia Cruz, along with Tito Puente, Carmen Miranda, Selena and Carlos Gardel were honored in the collection.


 "For these stamps, artist Rafael Lopez, San Diego, California, painted semi-realistic portraits of each musical artist designed to evoke their personality, vitality and even their sound. He used a warm palette of colors — from brilliant yellows, pinks and lime green to rich shades of purple and blue — to suggest the flavor and energy these artists brought to their work. Each musician is depicted in mid-performance. Art Director Ethel Kessler says, "My goal was that when you see the stamp, you hear the music."

R.I.P Nate Dogg 1969-2011

Nathaniel D, a.k.a Nate Dogg, the singer and rapper was 41 and greatly influenced the culture and music of the our society. Rest in Piece.

Song of the Week 3: Crystal Waters vs DJ Pauly D

It's never ending story with artist sampling original beats from previous hits. Should we consider it as a compliment or disgrace. This topic always comes up when conversing with those in the industry, many new artist and what consumers/listeners believe is to be a "new" original beat is now days, bitten off or sampled. There are some songs re-made or re-mixed that are genius by new artist, however there are songs that we feel should be kept as classics and un-touched like MC Hammer (get it ha-ha). Here is an example, I know everyone knows who DJ Pauly D from MTV's Jersey Shore, the original beat to his song "Beat dat beat (It's time to)" is by Crystal Waters "100% Pure Love" released in 1994 by UMG Recordings.

Song of the Week -New!

How has music transformed in our society? From classic artist, foreign artist, and of course 21st Century artist, each week there will be a new "Song of the Week" posted in the music tab and on the site. A little taste of everything that represents our world.

First song of the week- This song came out around last halloween but has just recently hit the surface, its fun, funky, happy, groovy, its "Barbra Streisand" by Duck Sauce. Check it out, I know you will have it on repeat...that is,  if you dont already ;)

John Legend @ ASU for Black History Month

This event was last Tuesday and I know I'm a little late on the post but I still wanted to share a little about the event since I thought it was just fantastic. In significance to Black History Month, Arizona State University brought in a special guest speaker/artist, John Legend. Students were able to attend the presentation for free with a ASU Sun Card along with a free guest ticket to bring someone along. And aside from John Legend just being a great song writer and artist, he gave a very moving and motivating lecture on the importance of African-American history, politics and his personal philosophical views. I was inspired that such a great artist is really involved and is concerned about events happening around the world. Projects that he is involved with include Show Me Campaign, for communities in great poverty and Teach for America,  improving the education systems.

Then of course, he performed some of his greatest songs; just him and the piano (incredibly romantic by the way). Gosh, it was amazing. The next day I get a message on twitter saying my 'tweet,'along with a few others has "made it to the Phoenix New Times!" (lol) I thought it was amusing that they just decide to quote me in their blog and article without a notice, I don't mind but hey check out the article and one of my favorite songs from John Legend.
